ITF Tournaments 2025: international tennis returns to Forte Village

ITF Tournaments return to Sardinia for a season 2025 full of emotions and novelties

From March 31 to May 5, and from September 15 to October 26, 2025, the red clay tennis courts at Forte Village Sports Academy A.s.d. will stage 12 Combined tourneys featured by the International Tennis Federation and part of the prestigious Forte Village Tennis Project, 24 competitions each valued $30.000, thus an overall record prize money set at $720.000.

After a record-breaking season 2024, which closed with the triumph, respectively in men’s and women’s singles, of young Spanish athletes Daniel Rincon and Caroleta Martinez Cirez, while in men’s doubles the Italian duo Simone Agostini and Gianluca Cadenasso and in women’s doubles the Greek-Swedish duo Sapfo Sakellaridi and Lisa Zaar, the red clay courts of the prestigious Forte Village Sports Academy A.s.d. in Santa Margherita di Pula, stunning seaside resort in South Sardinia, near some of the most beautiful beaches on the island, are ready to host athletes from all over the world, eager to compete for the top of the 12 ITF Combined Tournaments, part of the thirteenth edition of “Forte Village Tennis Project”.

Launched in 2013 with the patronage of the Italian Federation and the support of Sardinia Region, this proud long-lasting project has evolved and strengthened over time, becoming a key reference point in the tennis scene, nationally and internationally. Thanks to meticulous organization and constant commitment to promoting talent, the event has grown edition after edition, attracting high-level athletes and contributing to the promotion of this exciting sport through prestigious competitions, which have represented – and still do – a springboard for many acclaimed stars of the contemporary global tennis scene. For example, the Italian champions Jannik Sinner, Matteo Berrettini and Matilde Paoletti, yet internationally famous athletes such as Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, Spanish Paula Badosa and Latvian Jeļena Ostapenko, who right here took their first steps towards the top of the professional career.

The purpose of these tournaments organized and managed by the ITF (International Tennis Federation), also known as Future Series, is indeed precisely to enable young tennis talents to gain fundamental points to improve their position in official rankings of the divisions ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals), which brings together the best male tennis players in the world, and WTA (Women’s Tennis Association), its female equivalent, and great visibility to then access to higher level competitions, such as the Challenger Tournaments, which also include Sardegna Open, taking place every spring at the wonderful courts at Monte Urpinu park in Cagliari, and the most coveted Grand Slam events.

An unprecedented total prize money equal to $720.000 ($30.000 each tournament, $60,000 per week, a record prize compared to last editions, in which prize pools amounted to “only” $28.000 each one), for these new 12 Combined Tournaments – 12 men’s and 12 women’s, both singles and doubles, for overall 24 competitions. The matches will take place in two phases, in spring and in autumn, lasting for six consecutive weeks each, the first scheduled from March to May, and the second between September and October.

The dates to highlight on the calendar are Mondays, March 31, April 7, 14, 21, 28, and May 5, for the first six Combined Tournaments, and Mondays, September 15, 22, 29, and October 6, 13, 20 for the remaining six ones, with a grand finale scheduled for Sunday, October 26, 2025, in which will be announced winners of women’s and men’s singles, as well as the champs of doubles.

This year too, athletes from all five continents will compete on the Sardinian tennis courts, confirming the international appeal of the competition. In the last edition, it welcomed 298 players representing over 41 nations. Italy played a leading role with 167 athletes, including a prominent Sardinian presence: 12 male players and 10 female players, between the qualifications and the main draw. Next up were 110 players from 27 European countries, with Germany, Bulgaria and Romania among the most represented countries (with 16 and 8 athletes each, respectively). 15 participants came from seven nations in America: the United States (7), Argentina and Uruguay (2), followed by Brazil, Canada, Chile and Haiti (1 each). Africa featured three players (Burundi, Morocco, South Africa), while Asia only two athletes (India, Iran). Oceania took to Sardinia only one, but prestigious representative, the Australian Tina Nadine Smith.

This edition, the bar is raised even higher than ever, not only for the total amount of participants, but also for the high technical quality of players that will compete at the Forte Village’s courts. Among them, nineteen-year-old Sardinian Lorenzo Carboni, fresh from his success in a prestigious $15.000 international tournament in Monastir (Tunisia). The competition promises to be even more intense, with a significant turnout of athletes eager to challenge each other in top-level matches, catching the attention of both fans and professionals. The tournament, which year after year consolidates itself as one of the most prestigious events on the ITF circuit, offers young tennis talents the opportunity to grow, while for players with a solid experience it represents an important stage to improve the rankings and hone their skills in a highly competitive context.

The infrastructural renovation of courts 2 and 4 of Forte Village Sports Academy A.s.d., the main ones where live streaming matches will be played, contributes to making the quality leap of the Sardinian ITF Tournaments even more significant. This intervention shows a constant commitment to raising the organizational and technical standards of the event and will offer athletes optimal conditions to best express their tennis skills, further strengthening the reputation of the event on the international landscape.
