Ultherapy: the revolutionary non-surgical facelift
Ultherapy regenerates the skin: how does this non-invasive technique work
Ultherapy is a latest generation aesthetic medicine treatment that stimulates the production of collagen and counteracts skin aging.
Thanks to Ultherapy you can have a more toned, compact and smoother skin. A skin regenerated in depth without resorting to a scalpel or needles. Indeed, this innovative aesthetic medicine treatment contrasts laxity of face, neck and décolleté skin in a simple and painless way.
The Ultherapy protocol, approved by the US FDA in 2009, arrived in Italy in 2015. It is based on the use of micro-focused ultrasound that stimulate the production of collagen. This protein is in large quantities in the dermis, and it is essential for structure and functionality of organs and tissues.
In fact, collagen keeps the skin elastic, toned, luminous and aesthetically pleasing. It slows down the natural biological aging process. However, from the age of 25 the body begins to produce less and less and the consequences are clear: the skin starts to look duller, thinner, less compact and the first wrinkles appear. Genetic factors, improper and high-sugar diet, smoking, exposure to sunlight, smog and stress can accelerate the loss of collagen.
Stimulating the production of collagen and strengthening the skin structure is the goal of the Ultherapy anti-aging treatment. It works deep beneath the skin’s surface, leaving no scars. Given that it is the first and only non-surgical facelift, it represents a valid alternative to traditional and more invasive cosmetic surgery procedures. In fact, it does not require a post-operative course and allows you to immediately go back to your normal activities since the recovery is immediate. Furthermore, the post-treatment indications are very simple to follow:
– avoid washing your face with hot water for 24 hours after the treatment;
– avoid sunbathing and keep the skin hydrated in the first week;
– during the following 2 weeks avoid sauna and facial massages;
How does the session take place? The patient usually lays on a bed and the doctor applies an anesthetic cream to reduce the tingling sensation generated by the heat. Then, the doctor slide a special ultrasound probe over the area to be treated. This probe allows to accurately visualize the SMAS (superficial muscle-aponeurotic system), that is, the complex of facial mimic muscles and fibrous bands. The doctor directs the probe where it is most useful. Meanwhile, the ultrasounds reach the deeper skin, producing heat which counteracts skin laxity and stimulates the production of new collagen. The natural lifting effect is guaranteed without altering the original facial harmony.
An Ultherapy session lasts 30 to 90 minutes, but one is sufficient to counteract sagging skin, eyebrow drooping and wrinkles on face, chin, neck and décolleté. The first improvements are visible immediately after the treatment. However, the real results come in the following months, depending on the body’s ability to produce new collagen. It also means that the results vary from patient to patient. Typically, six months after the Ultherapy session, the skin is smoother, firmer and brighter.
The Ultherapy non-surgical facelift is suitable for all skin types and at any time of the year. Depending on the skin response, it may be necessary to carry out a new session after about two years to counteract the natural skin aging process.
