Forte Village Tennis Project: ITF tournaments make a stop in Sardinia

From September 12 to October 23, 2022, the Tennis Academy of the Forte Village Resort will host the ITF Tournaments, a series of tournaments by the International Tennis Federation.

The clay courts of the Tennis Academy of Forte Village, the award-winning resort surrounded by the splendid Sardinian sea, will be the scene of the ITF Tournaments. From September 12 to October 23, 2022, the tennis event, which includes 12 tournaments in six weeks and 2 Combined Weekly Tournaments, is giving away a prize pool of $ 300,000.

The Forte Village Tennis Project started in 2013 and at its debut the FV Sports Academy organized 10 Combined tournaments, worth 10,000 dollars, at the tennis club in Santa Margherita di Pula, Cagliari. A year later, ITF Futures tournaments have grown to 44, spread throughout the season from March to May and September to November.

The project, which focuses on the winning combination of sport and tourism, has grown from year to year, becoming one of a kind. In fact, the Forte Village Tennis Project is the only tennis event in Italy and in the world to guarantee consecutively, in the same location, such a high number of Combined tournaments with prize pools of $ 50,000 per week, for men and women. In addition to 13 tennis courts (12 in clay and 1 in concrete) all equipped with artificial lighting, the resort also boasts spaces and sports equipment at the highest levels for every sport.

The ITF tournaments at Forte Village are an exceptional opportunity to extend the tourist season until early November and to increase the national and international visibility of Sardinia through the media. In addition, they have a positive effect on the local economy, which benefits from extra employment in the hospitality and tourism sectors. Finally, they promote professional tennis. In fact, the event allows athletes, especially the younger ones, to improve their ranking to access the most prestigious tournaments. The ITF Tournaments are the springboard for international talents: consider that the last edition attracted athletes from 41 different countries.

Furthermore, thanks to the patronage of the Italian Federation and the support of the Sardinia Region – which has promoted the activity of the Forte Village Sports Academy – young international athletes, who later became tennis champions, have benefited on the clay courts of the resort of Santa Margherita di Pula in the past. Among them: Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini.
