Who is Mika, one of the most loved international artists
Mika, artistic pseudonym of Michel Holbrook Penniman Jr., was born in Beirut on August 18, 1983. His childhood was marked by his early departure from Beirut when he was still a baby due to the Lebanese civil war. He then he moved to Paris and finally to London at the age of nine. After the first youth experiments, his musical success came in 2007, when his song “Grace Kelly” became an instant classic all over the world. It was a worldwide hit with a resounding success which continued in the following years.
His songs, loved by millions of people, were followed by tours, which led him to perform everywhere, from American theaters to the great arenas in Korea and Japan, from the symphonic concerts in opera houses in Canada and Italy to the extraordinary shows in Paris at Parc des Princes, Versailles, the Philarmonie and Bercy.
He performed his latest album, “My Name is Michael Holbrook”, in 12 arenas in Italy before Covid stopped him. The world tour resumed two years later, last spring, from North America and included two dates at the Coachella Festival before continuing in Europe this summer.
In Italy, Mika’s success is also due to his television appearances. In fact, he was an Italy’s X Factor judge for five editions. Furthermore, for two consecutive years, he presented “Stasera CasaMika” on the Italian TV. This was a one-man-show with music, entertainment and stories of a very special journey through Italy. Later he independently produced his own music shows for the web and TV.
However, Mika is also appreciated for his big heart. An example is “I Love Beirut”, a streaming event with which he raised funds for the Lebanese Red Cross which rescued civilians during the explosions in the Lebanese capital in August 2020. The event raised € 1 million from donors in 48 different countries. For this reason Mika received the honor of the Silver Palm of the Lebanese National Order. But the honors didn’t stop there. Mika is also a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in France. Furthermore, he and his sister Yasmine Penniman, aka DaWack, are into design, in particular for Swatch watches, Lozza glasses, Pilot pens, clothing. They also take care of the graphics of his records and the staging of his shows.
In conclusion, Mika is an all-round artist, who personally takes care of every detail of his concerts. And this is one more reason not to miss his show at the Forte Arena theater.
