Alla scoperta del Forte Village Nature Park: natura, animali e attività per tutte le età

Discovering Forte Village Nature Park: nature, animals and activities for everybody

Forte Village Nature Park, an immersive experience in nature

Among the new features for 2025 at Forte Village, the Resort in Santa Margherita di Pula, a large natural park of over 10.000 square meters dedicated to discovering the rich local biodiversity (and more), a must for spending unique moments with your family.

In the heart of South Sardinia, just next to the crystal-clear sea and the golden beaches of Santa Margherita di Pula, some of the most beautiful on the island, it opens a corner of lush and authentic nature to explore: Forte Village Nature Park, one of the great novelties for the season 2025 at the renowned Resort. A place where time seems to slow down, inviting to immerse in a world made of the sounds, colors and scents of the Sardinian countryside, with care and respect to enhance the rich local biodiversity.

This natural park, which extends for over ten thousand square meters, originated from the desire to transform a land once difficult to access and explore, located at the foot of the hill overlooking the Resort, into an open and welcoming space dedicated to discovering nature’s and environment’s education. The guided trails go through stables, aviaries and gardens, shaping a journey that combines the charm of native animals – like Sardinian donkeys and Giara horses – with the exploration of exotic and rare species, settled in large areas designed to respect their natural habitat.

But Forte Village Nature Park is much more than a simple zoo or reserve: is a place designed to awaken curiosity, stimulate knowledge and promote awareness about the importance of protecting environment, respecting perfectly the Resort’s rich agenda of projects to support sustainability. Educational workshops, cooking classes with only local ingredients and spaces dedicated to bio-dynamic agriculture transform your visit into a multisensory journey, that involves both adults and children.

An ever evolving project – among the most anticipated innovations, nature trails within the greenery, the 350 meter long panoramic zipline hanging above the lake, and the stunning astronomical observatory to admire stars and space – which is inspired by the planet and its own wonders, promising to surprise with new immersive attractions and panoramic trails that celebrate the richness, yet the fragility, of the environment that surrounds us.

Nature Park, an animal world to discover

The core of Forte Village Nature Park is undoubtedly its rich fauna, housed in environments designed to faithfully shape their natural habitats. The first stop on the route is a stable of over 2.300 square meters, home to Sardinian donkeys, including the rare albino specimen from the Asinara island, representing a precious genetic rarity. Next to it, common brown donkey accompanies the visitor to discover more usual local animals, such as Giara horses, small horses with strong personality, related to Sardinian folk and still partially grown wild.

The park’s true icon – together with colorful parrots – is Efisietta, a sweet filly born from two Shetland ponies in the first days of May, a time dedicated to the celebrations of Sant’Efisio, patron saint of the People of Sardinia, an anniversary that transcends its purely religious dimension to become a cultural and popular celebration, symbol of identity, tradition and belonging. Following, the park hosts some awesome deer too, including a rare white species, shy by nature and visible mainly during early and late hours of the day.

Among the most spectacular attractions there’s the Great Aviary, a structure of over 1.800 square meters and 10 meters high designed to give birds a large and varied environment, complete with trees, shrubs, a pond and a small stream, where they can fly freely and interact in an environment as natural as possible. The variety of species here is surprising: elegant red ibises and shiny ibises, majestic crowned cranes, delicate damselflies, ornamental ducks such as mandarins and carolines, magnificent blue and white peacocks, golden pheasants, mallards, turacos and black swans. A particularly fascinating presence is the one of flamingos and geese from distant lands, like Hawaii, Mesopotamia and Canada.

The area outside the aviary is home to several ornamental poultry species, including sultans and selected varieties like Sebright, Brahma, Livorno and Morosetta, as well as multiple rabbits, which offer interesting concepts for exploring themes related to biodiversity and the harmonious coexistence of such different animals.

No less important is the educational farm, extending over 2.000 square meters and divided into two areas. Here you can find traditional Sardinian farm animals, including sheep, rams, primitive Sardinian goats and Tibetan goats, which allow to deepen knowledge about native breeds and local agricultural practices. Each animal, despite being born in captivity, comes from certified farms and is regularly assisted by dedicated veterinary infirmaries, a relevant aspect for the safety of guests and the well-being of all animals.

Synergical garden, workshops and multisensory experiences

The mission of Forte Village Nature Park is not limited to protect and enhance the wildlife: equally central is the value attributed to plants, carefully cared for and designed to convey a harmonious vision of the relationship between human and nature. The heart of this green area is the synergical garden, a space cultivated according to natural agriculture principles, hence free of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, in which land is respected as a living being and regenerated through techniques that support biodiversity.

Here guests can explore themed flower beds dedicated to aromatic plants – such as thyme, oregano, sage, rosemary and basil – alongside local officinal herbs like marigold, mallow, peppermint, chamomile and lavender. Depending on the season, the garden is enriched with traditional Sardinian horticultural crops such as courgettes, beefsteak tomatoes, aubergines, San Giovanni’s onions and broad beans, all arranged according to a logic of inter-cropping that promotes soil self-sufficiency and the natural protection of plants.

At the heart of this green area there’s Casa del Custode (Guardian’s House), designed as a true cultural and educational hub. Inside, it hosts cooking classes that promote freshly picked local ingredients, but also educational workshops that accompany children and adults discovering traditional agricultural knowledge, handmade harvesting and food preservation techniques, while specific meetings focus on themes like nutritional balance, properties of medicinal plants and the protection of the Mediterranean flora heritage.

When the sun sets, Casa del Custode transforms into an evocative setting for dinners under the stars, on which guests have the opportunity to join an unforgettable sensory experience that mixes taste, storytelling and memory, within the scents and respectful silence of the Mediterranean nature.
