ITF Tennis tournaments return to Santa Margherita di Pula
From 18th September to 30th October 2023, the ASD Tennis Academy of Forte Village Resort will host the ITF international tennis tournaments.
From September 18th to October 30th, the ASD Tennis Academy of Forte Village, a luxurious resort located in the beautiful Caribbean sea of Sardinia, will host the ITF international tennis tournaments. This event is organised by the ASD Forte Village Sports Academy with the support of the Department of Tourism, Crafts, and Commerce of the Sardinia Region.
The sporting event is part of the Forte Village Tennis Project that takes place on the tennis courts of the club in Santa Margherita di Pula, located in the province of Cagliari. This project started in 2013 with the organization of 10 combined tournaments, each with a prize of $10,000. By 2014, the number of tournaments had increased to 44 and they take place from March to May and from September to November.
This project is an exciting fusion of sports and tourism that has experienced significant growth over the years. It is now the only tennis event in Italy and the world hosting such a large number of combined tournaments for both men and women at a single location, with prize pools of $50,000 per week.
In addition, the Resort offers excellent equipment and spaces for all sports, including 13 tennis courts (1 in concrete and 12 in red clay) equipped with artificial lighting.
Between September and October of 2023, there will be a total of 12 tournaments included in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) circuit. These tournaments will be divided into separate categories for men and women, each consisting of 6 combined events.
Admission is free and each tournament will see a prize pool for each winner of $25,000 per week, for a total of $300,000.
The ITF tournaments serve as a significant platform that attracts young athletes from around the globe who are keen on entering the professional tennis circuit. It also sees the participation of several professionals who relaunch their careers, including Kyle Edmund, a British tennis player who was formerly ranked number 14 in the world and has won two ATP singles titles.
But that’s not all.
The ITF Tournaments are also an extraordinary opportunity for young Sardinian tennis players to enter the professional tennis circuit, as in the case of Lorenzo Carboni (born in 2006) who joined the school of Roberto Piatti, an internationally renowned coach who boasts players such as Doković and Sinner in his portfolio.
It is worth mentioning the exceptional champions, both Italian and foreign, who have participated in the ITF tournaments held at the ASD Forte Village Sports Academy in Santa Margherita di Pula over the years. Among them are Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner, Matteo Berrettini, Casper Ruud, and Martina Trevisan who have competed in previous editions.
